A New Era Of Professional Musical Theatre Training

The Residency is Teatro’s elite full-time musical theatre program for artists aged 17+ who are ready to move beyond the student experience and into the realities of the professional industry.

Running across nine intensive months, The Residency offers a deeply immersive, industry-led training experience unlike anything else currently available in Sydney.

Created by the team behind Teatro and THEatreBRIDGE, the program has been built in direct response to a changing industry, one that demands versatile, resilient and creatively fearless performers.

This is not traditional full-time study.
This is professional practice.

Students will train inside a working producing theatre company, learning directly from some of the country’s leading directors, choreographers, musical directors, casting professionals and working performers.

Across three progressive terms, artists will develop their craft, technical discipline, rehearsal process, performance stamina and industry understanding in an environment designed to mirror the demands and expectations of the professional world.

TERM ONE – 2 February – 9 April (Foundations & Artistic Development)

The first term focuses on rigorous foundational training, with students working intensively alongside one leading mentor each week. Training will centre around technique, storytelling, discipline, collaboration and individual artistic growth.

TERM TWO – 27 April – 2 July (Industry Immersion)

The second term expands into a fast-paced professional rehearsal environment, with daily specialist mentors and guest creatives guiding students through advanced performance training and industry preparation.

Students will begin developing the adaptability and resilience required of modern working artists, while building meaningful relationships with leading professionals actively working in the industry.

TERM THREE – 20 July – 24 September (Production & Performance)

The final term culminates in a full rehearsal process for a major musical production to be staged at Teatro.

Students will rehearse, create and perform within a professional theatre environment, applying everything developed throughout the year in front of live audiences.

This final term is designed to bridge the gap between training and employment, providing practical, real-world experience inside a producing theatre company.

WHY THE RESIDENCY?

The Residency exists to create genuine pathways into the industry.

Many performers complete school or tertiary training without ever experiencing the rhythm, expectation and culture of a professional rehearsal room. The Residency has been specifically designed to close that gap.

Students are not only trained — they are mentored, challenged and prepared for sustainable careers in the performing arts.

TRAIN INSIDE A WORKING THEATRE COMPANY

Based at Teatro in Sydney’s Inner West, students will work within a live producing environment surrounded by rehearsals, productions, creatives and working industry professionals.

Many performers from THEatreBRIDGE have already gone on to perform in Teatro productions, and The Residency expands this vision even further creating a direct pipeline between training and professional performance opportunities.
